External groundworks are an important feature of any basement waterproofing installation – even when an internal system of drainage is being used.
Not only is it important to safely eliminate discharge water from the sump- pump in order to prevent it from cycling back in to the basement, but also percolating rainwater needs to be directed away from the foundation wherever possible.
Here, a ‘bubbler pot’ is used to dissipate the discharge water at a safe distance e from the basement.
It is well concealed amongst the grass but you can see the green lid, which rises and allows excess water to dissipate over the ground surface whilst the rest drains via a small soak-away (gravel filled pit) below.
Concealing external pipework
Here it was advantageous to direct the pump discharge water to the gutter in the lane.
The lawn has been restored to conceal the pipework leaving no visible evidence.
Preventing excess rainwater penetration
The use of concrete paving combined with a waterproof render and an externally applied liquid waterproof coating help to reduced the amount of rainwater able to enter the backfill – the soil immediately outside the basement.
